No Names, Please - Bill and Hillary Mum on Donors

September 28, 2007

Bill Clinton is showing no inclination to disclose the names of the people whose sizable donations helped construct his $165 million presidential library.

In a surreal moment during Wednesday night's Democratic debate, Hillary Rodham Clinton was asked about the fact that her husband's foundation and library refuse to disclose the names of the people who have chipped in, sometimes to the tune of millions of dollars — any of whom might want to curry favor with the family of the next president. Moderator Tim Russert asked why her husband had not voluntarily made the donor list public even if the law does not require it, given the potential for conflict.

"You'll have to ask them," said the senator from New York.

Hilary Clinton Gets ‘Meathead’ Endorsement

September 28, 2007

The presidential battle for Hollywood bigwigs — and cash — heated up yesterday, as Hillary Clinton picked up the endorsement of liberal movie director Rob Reiner.

Reiner, who played "Meathead" Mike Stivic on TV's "All in the Family," has offered to do "everything I can" to elect Clinton.

Reiner, a supporter of Vice President Al Gore in the 2000 election, told Variety, "[Gore] made it very clear he wasn't going to be a candidate, so I took him at his word and then went through the process of saying, 'Who is the most qualified?' The answer was Hillary."

Clinton also has director Steven Spielberg in her corner, while Barack Obama has Oprah Winfrey and record mogul David Geffen, a former Clinton supporter.

Clinton, meanwhile, has opened a 7-point lead in a head-to-head matchup with Rudy Giuliani in the latest Fox News/Opinion Dynamics poll.

Hillary’s Healthcare Plan Is For Lemmings

September 28, 2007

By Sally C. Pipes

Hillary Clinton unveiled her health care plan under the banner of American Health Choices Plan. It should be called the "Everything But the Kitchen Sink" plan.

Clinton's plan would increase taxes, create new government-provided insurance, bolster federal regulation, mandate that individuals purchase approved insurance policies, and mandate that large employers pay for such policies. The only thing it doesn't promise is a single-payer health care system. That will, however, be the result.

Clinton talks of choices, but her plan is about limiting them, not expanding them.

‘It’s time for Bill Clinton to move on’, Says GOP

September 28, 2007

[flash rsquo;s clear that the Republicans are not ready to move on.

The Republican National Committee is circulating an email rallying call to fellow Republicans to call radio stations and write letters to editors about a video clip of former President Bill Clinton dismissing the GOP’s objections to the MoveOn.org ad.

“I think that there was something completely disingenuous about the feigned outrage of the Repbulicans in the White House and in the Congress about this,’’ Clinton said slowly and seriously in an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper on 360. "This was classic bait and switch.''

The short clip of Clinton voicing those words ncluded in the GOP emailing, courtesy of YouTube, is fodder for a new Republican salvo against Democrats for not denoucing MoveOn.org’s ad calling the commander of U.S. and multinational forces in Iraq “General Betray Us.’’

“Last week, Hillary Clinton voted against a resolution condemning MoveOn.org for its vicious personal attack on General David Petraeus, the highly-respected leader of our Armed Forces in Iraq,’’ Mike Duncan, RNC chairman, writes in the email to party members. “Now, Bill Clinton is joining in, but - typically - he's taking it even further, angrily attacking those who condemned the ad. Hillary Says You’re too Dumb for Doughnuts

September 28, 2007

Americans love freedom and choice, so why does our government keep taking it away? Well, it’s for our own good. We are too dumb, ignorant, greedy, fat and lazy to make the right choices for ourselves, so politicians have to make the choices for us.

It’s gotten so bad that government is now telling 85-year-old seniors that they can’t have doughnuts. Senior centers in Putnam County, New York, used to receive free donations of doughnuts and other baked goods. County officials have now banned the evil pastries.  They were concerned that the high-calorie, fatty, delicious treats would worsen some of the seniors’ health problems. They did it for the seniors.

Joe Hajkowski is 75 years old.  He got so mad about the cradle-to-grave doughnut-protection program that he organized a protest.  His fellow seniors carried signs reading, “They’re Carbs, not Contraband,” and “We’re Old Enough to Choose.”  He told me on my radio show that one of the women denied a doughnut is 104. Maybe if she eats carrots from now on she’ll live to be 105.

The county officials now say it’s more than just a health issue,: it’s a food security issue.  They aren’t sure they can transport the food safely.  Quick, call Homeland Security!  It’s a doughnut emergency.
