Clintons Covering Pennsylvania Like A “Wet Blanket”

March 11, 2008

By Jonathan Allen

New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton will win the majority of popular votes and the Democratic presidential nomination "if she gets a big victory in Pennsylvania," former President Bill Clinton told a packed senior center in this borough south of Pittsburgh Tuesday.

And if Canonsburg is any indication, the New York senator is on track to do very well in the Keystone State.

Clinton MSNBC Debate Back On

February 13, 2008

Brian Williams and Tim Russert must be relieved.

Hillary’s Lobbyist Delegate

February 3, 2008

Eyebrows are being raised over the choice of the highest-grossing government lobbyist in New York City to run as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention on Hillary Rodham Clinton's slate. Suri Kasirer was selected to appear on Tuesday's primary ballot. That's despite Clinton proclaiming her policy of keeping her distance from registered lobbyists. Quipped one political West Sider, "I guess the Clinton campaign recognized the need to repay a financial bundler with the privilege of trolling the convention floor for clients."

A Bankrupt Answer

January 24, 2008

When we first heard Hillary Clinton’s bankruptcy answer during the Nevada Democratic debate, we did a double-take.  What an odd response, we thought.  Let’s quickly revisit:

RUSSERT: Senator Clinton, you voted for the same 2001 bankruptcy bill that Senator Edwards just said he was wrong about. After you did that, the Consumer Federation of America said that your reversal on that bill, voting for it, was the death knell for the opponents of the bill. Do you regret that vote?

CLINTON: Sure I do, but it never became law, as you know. It got tied up. It was a bill that had some things I agreed with and other things I didn’t agree with, and I was happy that it never became law.

In the rush of enthusiasm over the rest of the debate, we forgot what we just heard.

But Barack Obama didn’t.

Check out his reaction:

In Reno on Friday, he ridiculed an answer Clinton gave during the Las Vegas debate about her support for a 2001 Senate bankruptcy bill that was backed by credit-card companies and strongly opposed by consumer groups. Clinton said she was glad the measure never became law. “Think about that,” Obama said. “She voted for it even though she hoped it wouldn’t pass.”

Not bad.

Hillary Locks and Loads

December 12, 2007

Ah, what a wonderful thing is democracy. It may have its flaws, but there's nothing better, particularly the pleasures of a national election with early contests in Iowa and New Hampshire. What else to make of the latest press release from Senator Clinton's campaign, touting Senator Obama's one-time support of "banning all handguns" as evidence that calls Mr. Obama's "electability" into question?
