Deconstructing Bill (again)

BY CLARICE FELDMAN
Yesterday, Bill Clinton stated he's always opposed the war in Iraq, which if true would have placed him at odds with his position in 1998 when he bombed an aspirin factory just as he was about to be impeached, and — more significantly — with his wife's position when she voted to authorize the war.
Hillary Clinton’s advisers too gung-ho on Iraq war, critics say
November 25, 2007
Is Hillary Clinton the hawk masquerading as the dove? Some Democrats who know her security advisers fear her war in Iraq will be just as bloody as George Bush's.
Party critics foresee an aggressive Clinton administration pressing the fight in Iraq - and possibly in Iran, too.
The Democrats’ immigration time-bomb

As the Democrats brought their weary road show to Vegas tonight, most analysts suspected that Hillary Clinton would get a mulligan on the illegal immigration question that she botched so badly at their last tussle. It played out as expected. Right out of the box, Campbell Brown asked the candidates about illegal immigration. Rather than focus on their own purported solutions to the crisis, they collectively decided to focus their ire on George W. Bush for not solving the problem first.
This has become the default refrain for Democrats when they have nothing to say or no real means of moving the ball forward–blame Bush. Among the more fevered elements of their base, it usually works. They blame Bush for everything, so of course they were willing to blame him for a liberal governor's dreadful plan to grant licenses to illegal immigrants, and a presidential aspirant's clumsy refusal to distance herself from such foolishness.
Blitzer on Hillary: ‘If she can’t handle the heat… wait until Republicans really start going’…

Coming off the worst two weeks of her campaign, presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton returns to the debate stage today with hopes of regaining her footing.
But the topic that knocked her off stride in the last debate — driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants — is back in the news and likely to resurface when the Democratic candidates face off in Las Vegas.
On Wednesday, New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer abandoned a plan to give licenses to illegals amid a public furor that was sparked by Clinton’s comments during an Oct. 30 debate. Clinton initially expressed support for Spitzer’s plan, but then equivocated, drawing fire from her Democratic rivals.
Hillary’s Stand? Well, today is Thursday…

Three recipients of controversial 11th-hour pardons issued by former President Bill Clinton in January 2001 have donated thousands of dollars to the presidential campaign of his wife, Democratic front-runner Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., according to campaign finance records examined by ABC News, in what some good government groups said created an appearance of impropriety.
"It's not illegal," Melanie Sloan, executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, told ABC News. "But, of course, it's inappropriate and she should return the money. It does raise the appearance that this is payback.
"One can only hope that she wasn't yet aware of who made the donations," said Sloan.
"We have raised over $65 million from over 200,000 people," said Clinton campaign manager Howard Wolfson, adding sarcastically, "I appreciate your bringing the instance of this $5,300 and these three people to our attention."
