Blitzer on Hillary: ‘If she can’t handle the heat… wait until Republicans really start going’…

November 15, 2007

Coming off the worst two weeks of her campaign, presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton returns to the debate stage today with hopes of regaining her footing.

But the topic that knocked her off stride in the last debate — driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants — is back in the news and likely to resurface when the Democratic candidates face off in Las Vegas.

On Wednesday, New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer abandoned a plan to give licenses to illegals amid a public furor that was sparked by Clinton’s comments during an Oct. 30 debate. Clinton initially expressed support for Spitzer’s plan, but then equivocated, drawing fire from her Democratic rivals.

Schmoozing with Terrorists: Hamas Friendly Hillary ticket to Palestinian victory

November 15, 2007

Hamas believes Sen. Hillary Clinton, if elected president in 2008, will end President Bush's "unlimited military and diplomatic support for Israel" and adapt a more "evenhanded" approach toward the Palestinians, says the group's top political adviser.

Speaking yesterday with WND Jerusalem bureau chief Aaron Klein, Ahmed Yousuf, the top aide to Ismail Haniyeh, the deposed prime minister and Hamas leader in Gaza, said in recorded comments the group heard from "many Americans" that if the Democrats take the White House next year they will implement "drastic changes" to U.S. foreign policy and relations with the Palestinians.

Listen to Ahmed Yousuf:

"I do believe Miss Clinton will have a more balanced policy when it comes to how to solve the Arab-Israeli conflict," Yousuf told Klein. "And I don't think she is going to give to the Israelis this unlimited military and diplomatic support that they are actually enjoying now; so … the future politics in the region will [see] a very drastic change when it comes to how to handle the Palestinian question."

Cash For Clinton Pardons?

November 15, 2007

Insurance agent Alfredo Regalado, who gave Hillary Clinton $2,000, was pardoned by her husband for failing to "report the transportation of currency in excess of $10,000 into the United States," according to the Department of Justice.

Allegedly Mishandled Government Secrets

John Deutch is a different case, having served as President Clinton's CIA director.

Pardoned by President Clinton for charges he had mishandled government secrets — but before the Department of Justice could file the proper paperwork against him — Deutch, now a professor at MIT, gave Sen. Clinton the maximum allowable donation, $2,300.

Neither Herdlinger nor Regalado nor Deutch could be reached for comment.

"This is another argument for restoring the presidential public financing system," said Common Cause's Mary Boyle. "Is there an appearance here that this is kind of a payback for the pardons? I'm sure it could look that way for some people. But they're exercising their free and perfectly legal right to give a campaign contribution."

Hillary’s inevitable nomination undercut

November 14, 2007

Hillary

It's been a rough couple of weeks for Sen. Hillary Clinton. Her fall from grace, while not complete, is easy to understand when considering that her entire candidacy is built on the inevitability of her winning the Democratic Party's nomination, and ultimately the presidency.

Until recently er campaign strategy has worked. Democrats eager to retake the White House know Bill Clinton was the last Democrat to win consecutive terms as president.

Hillary received the benefit of the doubt from many Democrats, not because she is a stellar candidate but because of the enormous confidence they have in her husband. Most assumed as far back as 2000 that she would be the nominee.

So far she hasn't had to do the typical left-wing song and dance. Since announcing her candidacy she has tried to run a more middle-of-the-road campaign in hopes of insulating herself from attacks once she gets a Republican opponent.

U-Turn! Hillary Clinton Says No to Licenses for Illegals

November 14, 2007

Hillary says no

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on Wednesday came out against granting driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, after weeks of pressure in the presidential race to take a position on a now-failed ID plan from her home state governor.

Clinton has faced criticism from candidates in both parties for her noncommittal answers on New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer's attempt to allow illegal immigrants in his state to receive driver's licenses. Spitzer abandoned the effort Wednesday.

"I support Governor Spitzer's decision today to withdraw his proposal," Clinton said in a statement. "As president, I will not support driver's licenses for undocumented people and will press for comprehensive immigration reform that deals with all of the issues around illegal immigration including border security and fixing our broken system."
